ERIC LEBOFSKY
New Paintings
"I am a pineal painter. As I relax into the mind’s eye, and when I’m at my best, I become like a zombie or an insect that has been co-opted by a parasitic fungus; I find myself executing visions, thoughts, emotions, and actions that don’t feel like my own. It’s a state that rewards not knowing you are in it– the more attention I don’t pay, the more the paintings find their authentic meaning and their certitude. While they percolate, recombine, and progress, little scraps and bits from their symbols, structures, and failures interleave. The figures in these paintings are all poised on the cusp of becoming. They are powerful and present. You must determine, based on your projections, whether they inhabit a level of purgatory or climb of paradise. If I could articulate in words the meaning of these paintings, I wouldn’t have to paint them. But I can’t. So here we are." - Eric Lebofsky, 2025 Eric Lebofsky is a visual artist, writer, and musician who lives in the suburbs of Chicago.
