CECILIA BEAVEN

Cecilia Beaven's practice spans painting, drawing, sculpture, comics, animation, and large scale mural work. Her art weaves together personal mythology, humor, folklore, and an expansive narrative imagination, resulting in a distinctive world of characters and symbols that move between the playful, the uncanny, and the contemplative. Rooted in both lived experience and invented stories, Beaven creates images that feel immediate and intimate while also inviting viewers into a broader imaginative universe.

Beaven earned her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BFA in Visual Communication from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Her work has been exhibited widely in Mexico, the United States, South America, and Europe, and she has created public murals in cities across the world.

Working with a range of materials that include lush painted surfaces, bold ink drawings, and immersive mural compositions, Beaven brings an energetic and intuitive approach to image making. Her visual language combines narrative clarity with dreamlike invention, allowing familiar motifs to shift into unexpected forms. The result is a practice that challenges the line between personal story and collective imagination.

Through her vibrant and multifaceted body of work, Cecilia Beaven invites audiences to enter a space where humor, memory, and fantasy coexist. Her art becomes a living archive of characters, emotions, and encounters, offering a spirited meditation on how stories shape our understanding of the world and of ourselves.
