"In her insistent self-portraits, Su-en addresses the sexualization of the adolescent, the infantilizing of the Asian woman by the male gaze, and concomitant sexual stereotypiing of the Asian woman as compliant and subservient. She presents multiple images of herself in blatantly sexualized poses, on vast monochrome fields of candy colored, girly pastels. These Martha Stewert colors: marmalade orange, apple green, an intense pink, are sometimes decorated with frilly ornamental borders.
